Your network cable carries more than music. It also carries high frequency noise from routers, switches and the rest of your network, straight into your streamer. The CAD (Computer Audio Design) Ethernet Control is a small, simple fix for that.
It plugs between your Ethernet cable and your streamer, server or DAC. One end is an RJ45 socket for your network cable, the other a thick gold-plated RJ45 plug, so no extra cable is needed. Inside, custom CAD transformers give galvanic isolation and reduce noise on the Ethernet signals, signal ground and network interface across a wider range than standard Ethernet transformers. It works with streaming services and with locally stored files.
CAD recommends placing it at the final termination of the Ethernet cable as it enters your system, where it says it has the greatest effect. For further improvement, try a second one on the input or output of a network switch or router.
It can also be used with analogue components, such as amplifiers, that have Ethernet connections for service, control or configuration. Check the manufacturer's manual first to make sure the RJ45 socket is Ethernet compatible. There's no need to power down when you fit it, although some streamers or servers may need a re-boot when the network is reconnected, and CAD notes that performance improves over the first 150 hours of use.
